Case File Access & Institutional Licensing
Three ways to use Mile Point Index case files: free public dispatch, solo investigator access, and a department or classroom license.
Every Mile Point Index episode ships with a Case File & Field Briefing in four parts: 01 // The Incident, 02 // The Forensics, 03 // The Interrogation, and 04 // The Evidence Locker. Pick the access that fits.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I find real-world civil and highway engineering case studies for classroom or university teaching?
Mile Point Index publishes a Case File & Field Briefing with every episode: a real highway or bridge case built from instrumented DOT field tests and federal data, with the engineering mechanics worked out, technical seminar questions with a full answer key, and a clickable ledger of primary sources. The Department / Classroom License ($299 per year) lets an instructor print, distribute, and project the Case Files for up to 100 students or team members.
What is included in a Mile Point Index Case File & Field Briefing?
Each Case File has four parts. 01 // The Incident & Corridor Baseline: an executive summary, a US Census and freight corridor profile, and the historical backdrop. 02 // The Forensics: deep-dive engineering mechanics, load transfer math, and downloadable 4K redrawn telemetry charts and cross-section schematics. 03 // The Interrogation: 5 technical seminar or assessment questions with a complete engineering answer key. 04 // The Evidence Locker: a clickable primary source ledger with full DOT field-test PDFs, DOIs, NBI Bridge Structure IDs, FARS crash baselines, and USAspending federal grant obligations. The 01 summary is free on every episode page; the full Case File is for Solo Investigator and Department / Classroom License subscribers.
What primary data sources does Mile Point Index use?
Each Case File starts from a published research report. We look for reports from state DOT research programs (including State Planning and Research, or SPR, Part II studies), the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) through the U.S. DOT National Transportation Library's ROSA P repository, the Transportation Pooled Fund Program, OpenAlex, and the public repositories of university transportation research centers. To place each story on the ground we use public datasets: the FHWA National Bridge Inventory (NBI) for bridge condition, the NHTSA Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) for fatal crashes, the FHWA Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) for traffic volume and pavement roughness, and USAspending.gov and U.S. DOT grant data for federal funding. We also screen each corridor against the FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) and use U.S. Census Bureau data for local context. The source ledger in each Case File lists what sits behind its figures.
How does the $299/year Department / Classroom License work for school P-Cards?
The Department / Classroom License is $299 per year, priced below the standard $500 academic and municipal purchasing-card (P-Card) limits so a department can check out without board approval. It includes full access to every Case File & Field Briefing, reproduction rights to print, distribute, and project Case Files for up to 100 students or team members, and an itemized PDF tax invoice for school or corporate P-Card reimbursement.
